NINE INCH NAILS Keyboardist Translates REZNOR's Speech For Italian Fans; Video Available

September 3, 2007

NINE INCH NAILS performed at the Independent Days Festival in Italy on Sunday, September 2. They were in top form and mainman Trent Reznor was in a very talkative mood — but he had a surprise up his sleeve for his Italian fans: he let his Italian keyboardist Alessandro Cortini translate into the native language Reznor's usual pro-piracy, anti-major-labels speech. The crowd reacted with long applauses and was surprised by the scene, with Reznor whispering in Cortini's ear right before the band launched into "The Hand That Feeds".

A video clip of Cortini's speech can be found at this location. The setlist and photos can be found here.

NINE INCH NAILS' latest album, "Year Zero", might be turned into a television series. Trent Reznor told a U.K. newspaper that plans are underway to bring the concept disc to the airwaves, saying, "We've got a producer on board and have met with writers. We're about to pitch it to the network, so we're a couple of weeks away from meeting all of the main people, and we'll see what happens."

"Year Zero" is set in a totalitarian future America ruled by a right-wing religious dictatorship. The populace is plagued by mysterious visions, the country's drinking water might be drugged and global catastrophe is near.

Reznor said earlier in the year that he was interested in bringing the story to the screen, possibly as a movie.

The album was released this past spring after an innovative viral marketing campaign that left clues for fans online and in venues where the band had played.
